TPAV Case Win #1358 - TPAV Fights for Fairness

How TPAV Helped a Visual Arts Teacher Reclaim their Passion

It's upsetting to hear when a teacher with the necessary qualifications, experience, and skills to excel in their chosen field is unable to utilise their talents to the best of their ability because their employer made a rash decision.

Sadly, this was the case for one of our members, a visual arts teacher from Victoria who had been assigned to teach a year 6 classroom despite having taught arts for the six years prior. After attempting to discuss the matter with their principal, they found themselves at a dead end and feeling frustrated with the situation.
They knew that they needed assistance and reached out to us for help.

We assigned one of our expert case managers to help them pursue their grievance through the Merit Protections Board. Working to gather all the relevant evidence and documentation to support their case, the case manager argued that the member's skills and experience as a visual arts teacher were being overlooked and undervalued, and that they were being unfairly treated with the appointment of their new role.

After discussions and negotiations, we were able to successfully win the appointment of a suitable role for our member at another school.
They were thrilled with the outcome, being able to work in a role that suited their qualifications and experience, and most importantly being able to continue pursuing their passion for teaching visual arts.

Why is the TPAV different? We believe that real change in education STARTS with empowering frontline teachers, not bureaucrats.
