Read about how we Negotiated a favourable Separation Package for a member after they were bullied and wanted to move to a new environment

We all do our best work when we feel safe and happy in our workplace (coffee helps too). Working in education can be very rewarding, but it can also come with its own set of challenges. You wouldn’t expect one of these challenges to be dealing with false accusations (unrelated to child protection), and unsubstantiated complaints from students and parents.

Sadly, this was the case for one of our TPA members..

Our member had dedicated over 15 years to their school in Queensland and had established a positive reputation. An anonymous complaint was made by a student and another from a parent, however neither specifically named an accused.
During a meeting with HR to discuss the matter, a colleague at the school acting as their support person asserted that the allegations were unacceptable with zero evidence.

Feeling bullied and targeted by these complaints, as a similar instance had occurred the year before, they contacted TPAV for assistance; that's when our case manager stepped in to help.

Investigating the issue, it became clear that our member felt they were working in an increasingly toxic environment - which was causing unnecessary stress. Our expert case manager advised our member that she had two options: she could meet with the principal and colleagues to talk about this and other issues at the school or she could discuss a separation package. Our member decided they would be happier in a new workplace.

After some tough negotiations with the principal, she was pleased to receive all owed entitlements and severance pay - $12,000. While it was bittersweet to leave a job they had devoted over 15 years to, she was very happy with the outcome and excited to start a new chapter in their life.

Why is the TPAV different? We believe that real change in education STARTS with empowering frontline teachers, not bureaucrats.
